The Royal Winton Story

Royal Winton (originally Grimwades Ltd / Grimwade Brothers) was a Stoke-on-Trent pottery company with roots dating to the late 19th century. The brand became known for quality tableware and, from 1928 onward, a series of highly detailed all-over floral chintz patterns that were exported widely.

Chintz decoration (tightly grouped floral motifs) became a signature style. More than 60 patterns were introduced over the decades. Production of traditional chintz ceased in the early 1960s due to cost. The patterns remain sought after by collectors today, with reference books, clubs, and specialist auctions documenting them.

Later ownership changes included acquisition in the 1990s and merger with sister company Duchess China Ltd. Some popular chintz patterns were later reintroduced on giftware and limited editions using revived lithographic techniques. All production was based in the Staffordshire Potteries, England.
